FAQ
What if I’ve never done yoga?
All of our classes are designed for all levels of experience and flexibility. The only thing you need to practice yoga is an open mind. Seriously, that’s it! It doesn’t matter how flexible or strong you are. It doesn’t matter what your postures look like. As long as you show up and do your best, you will benefit from yoga. Stay well hydrated and arrive at least 15 minutes before class starts.
What if I’m not naturally flexible?
All levels of flexibility can practice and benefit from yoga. One of yoga’s top benefits is increased flexibility. Our instructors provide variations to postures so that you can safely practice at any level of strength and flexibility. With time and practice, you can improve your flexibility through yoga!
Will the heat be too much for me?
The practice room is intentionally heated to approximately 105 degrees for Bikram yoga. You will get used to the temperature fairly quickly, often within 2-3 sessions. That’s why it’s important not to make any immediate judgments about your response to it. Once your body adjusts, you’ll discover that the heat is your best friend on the practice floor. It will warm your muscles more quickly and allow you to go deeper into postures, preventing injuries while allowing for a deeper release in your body. Sweating helps flush toxins from your body. If at any time you feel overwhelmed by the heat, take Child’s Pose for as long as you need to.
How often should I do yoga?
Practice yoga on a regular basis and you will start to see the true benefits. Practice three or four times per week to see steady improvement. To change your life, practice every day. Anything is better than nothing.
What is the difference between Hot Yoga and Bikram Yoga?
While hot yoga can act as a general term for practicing yoga in a heated room, “Hot Yoga” at Red Dragon specifically refers to the 26-posture sequence of Bikram Choudhury. At Red Dragon, our Hot Yoga classes are sometimes less traditional; we offer 60-minute, 75-minute, and traditional 90 minute classes.
What to do if I have an injury?
Tell the teacher before class. During class, if any instruction doesn’t feel right, skip it. Don’t push yourself to the point of pain. And remember, whether you have an injury or not, if you feel you need to rest, you can always rest at any time.
What can I expect to feel after yoga?
You may feel some soreness from working new muscles, especially after your first few classes. You may also be dehydrated. Make sure to drink lots of water or coconut water to stay hydrated. Don’t be alarmed if you notice an unexpected sensation of physical and mental well-being and find yourself spontaneously smiling. This is normal. Remain calm and enjoy – then come back and do more yoga.
Is heated yoga safe to do if I am pregnant?
As with any exercise program, check with your physician and listen to your own body. If you had a strong practice before you became pregnant, you can continue your practice with modifications. If you are a beginner, pregnancy is probably not the best time to start a heated yoga practice, as the heat increases your heart rate (and the baby’s), among other things.
