FAQ

What if I am new to yoga?
Our classes are for all levels of experience and flexibility. Your instructor will be advised you are a new student and will encourage you to go at your own pace as you become accustomed to the postures, breathing and heat.

What should I wear to class?
As little as you feel comfortable in because you will sweat! Women; shorts or yoga pants, exercise bra or halter top. Men; shorts or trunks. Traditional ‘sweats’ will become too heavy for comfort.

What if I’m not flexible?
Yoga is not about only about flexibility but about strengthening your body and spine in all directions and learning to breathe. All that matters is that you try the right way, go to your personal “edge” and you will get 100% of the benefit!

What is the purpose of a heated room?
The temperature in the practice room is generally around 105F degrees and about 40% humidity. The heat warms your muscles and allows you to go deeper into postures, and more safely too. The heat also promotes sweating which flushes toxins from your body.

How often should I do yoga?
Consistency is the key to success. For life-changing results practice 4-6 days per week. A practice of 2-3 days per week, if consistent, will create transformation over time.

Is it a cardiovascular workout and can I lose weight?
No matter what your level of fitness, you will find Bikram and Power Yoga very challenging. With persistence, patience and dedication, you can lose inches and develop muscle tone and strength that might never come from other forms of exercise.

Is it safe if I am pregnant?
As with any exercise program, check with your physician and listen to your own body. If you had a strong practice before you became pregnant, you can continue your practice with modifications. If you are a beginner, pregnancy is probably not the best time to start a yoga practice. There are some poses such as inversions and lying on the belly that are truly contraindicated for pregnancy. We absolutely advise discussing with your physician your interest in starting or continuing your yoga practice when you pregnant.

What should I know about yoga and chronic medical conditions?
Yoga often miraculously IMPROVES or reverses conditions such as high blood pressure, arthritis, asthma, back problems and others medical issues. Visit bikramyoga.com for detailed information on what to expect and how to approach yoga if you have one of these conditions.
